What is Occupational illness (doença ocupacional)?
Also: doença ocupacional · doença do trabalho · occupational disease
Occupational illness is a disease caused or aggravated by work, equated to an accident (art. 20 of Law 8.213/1991). Once the link between the illness and the activity is recognized, weighty consequences follow: twelve months of occupational job security after return (art. 118; Súmula 378 of the TST), damages for moral and aesthetic harm and, where capacity is reduced, a pension.
The controversy turns on causal link and fault, settled by medical expertise. It is one of the highest individual-exposure disputes, because it combines job security, damages and a pension.
How LABORIS AI uses it
LABORIS AI groups the multiple claims that orbit an occupational illness — job security, moral damages, pension — to reveal the case’s consolidated exposure, often underestimated when the items are read in isolation.
